Arriving at a riad in a Moroccan medina

A private vehicle may not be able to drive through every historic medina alley. Planning the final meeting or drop-off point avoids confusion after a long flight.

Ask your host about road access

Before travel, send your hotel or riad name to the team. Ask the accommodation which entrance or nearby street can be reached by a car. A map pin deep inside a pedestrian alley may not be suitable as a vehicle destination.

Marrakech, Fes and Essaouira differ

Marrakech riads can be far from a drivable lane; Fes has extensive pedestrian areas; Essaouira medina also includes restricted streets. Do not use a single meeting landmark for all three cities. Confirm a city-specific accessible drop-off.

Make luggage arrangements before departure

Tell your driver about heavy or oversized bags, children and any assistance needed. A short walk between vehicle and riad is possible in some areas. Your accommodation may give directions for the final approach; share those instructions before arrival.

Keep your return pickup simple

Agree a named road-accessible exit, a pickup time and a contact number. If the vehicle cannot reach the riad door on arrival, it may not be able to do so for the return. Send the precise meeting point to everyone in the group.

Frequently asked questions

Will my driver always reach the riad door?

No. Many medina lanes are pedestrian-only; agree a car-accessible location.

Should I send my host’s directions?

Yes. They can help the driver identify a suitable approach and meeting point.
